Toy Description

I must confess to a compete lack of objectivity when it comes to the Green Machine. It is hands-down the most fun toy I have ever tried. Basically a re-make of the original Green Machine of decades past, this one has the same lever controlled, rear-wheel steering that allows for crazy hairpin turns, and spectacular spin-outs. Only this time the frame is a bit more sturdy, and the front tire is made of sturdy rubber (the rear tires, alas, are still of old school hollow plastic construction and are destined to wear out far too soon). A few important caveats: though highly maneuverable, this is one set of wheels you will want kids to keep far,

Customer Reviews

Green Machine Parent

I am very picky about what toys I buy for the kids and read many of the reviews on this product and it seemed that although the kids love it the durability was a problem. The problem that concerned me the most was the front wheel stripping out so you could no longer pedal it. I went to the store and what a coincedence the one on display was stripped out. I talked to the person at that store that assembles them and he stated that some come back for that reason. Knowing that they offer a 90 day refund for any damage I got one anyway. When i pulled it out of the box my feelings were confirmed that the nut on the front wheel that holds all the bearings together was loose. I got my bicycle wrenches out and tightened it to a snug fit still alowing the wheel to turn loosely. I have had it for a little time and watching the kids play i can understand the torque that front wheel gets and every week or so i snug that nut up which is causing this problem because once the wheel get's loose and the kids are still allowed to play on it - it only gets worse to the point of no fixing. So in short Huffy should supply a bike wrench of that size since everybody doesn't have one of those laying around but will a little preventitive maintance the problem as never presented itself to ours. Also the instructuions were a little vauge stating that the rods that are connected for the steering need to be left loose i can understand how that could be a problem also as some people waould only tightened a little causing the bolts to become bent and then not working properly. Those bolts do need not to be locked down as tight as possible but do need to be snug to protect the bolt from any bending. I would say tighten them to just when the 2 rods are toughing each other. With all that said for 79.99 i just went down and bought our second one for the reason that my son cannot play with his very much because of the line of neighbor kids waiting for their turn so with 2 the line should shorten. I beleive for that price the green machine is well built and although they should include a nut wrench for the front wheel and better assembly instructions it is well spent money. My kids have all kinda of powered toys and motorcycles but the green machine is what they want to spend time on, which suits me fine because they get more exercise on it than anything else.

WONDERFUL!

My oldest son purchased one of these with his Birthday money when they first came back out a couple of years ago. (He was 13 when he bought it.) He still has it and it is in good shape. He is busy with school, so he doesn't ride it as much now, but he still does now and then. I purchased 4 for this Holiday Season. (One for each of my 2 nephews and 2 for my younger son's. So there will be no fighting over who gets to ride it any more.) I think these are just great!

Great toy broke no parts

I bought this last October for my 6 year son's birthday. He used to ride it all the time until it broke. It's was the best toy he ever had in his eyes. The only issue is it broke. It came with a 6 month warranty and after 8 months one of the back wheels cracked. That was to be expected after a while but I thought it would happen later. A good fix was to wrap duct tape arounnd the cracked wheel, about 20 layers worth and it fixed it right up. My main concern and disappointment happened last week. The front wheel pedal system broke. The pedals spin but the wheel does not move. I havn't taken the assembly apart yet to see if I can fix it. I'm just disappointed that this thing did not last, it costs the same as a bike.
